Dog trainers specialise in teaching you how to teach your dog what you would like them to do. This could include walking nicely on lead, teaching your dog not to jump up on people, teaching them not to beg for food, or to settle down quietly when you need them to. Dog trainers can also specialise in specific types of activity, such as agility, obedience, trick training or scent-work for fun or for competitions.
As a dog behaviourist, I can help you with the above issues but my aim is to identify and address the root emotional causes, and then develop a customised plan that teaches your dog a more positive behaviour pattern. Examples of the causes can include anxiety, fear, frustration or boredom. These feelings can cause dogs to engage in potentially dangerous behaviours, such as chasing cars, separation anxiety or panicking, reacting to noises, harming themselves or property, or acting aggressively towards people or other dogs. These behaviours cannot be corrected by training alone, as the dog must not only learn new behaviours but also develop new feelings towards certain situations.
I only use positive reinforcement techniques.
Having studied for three years at The British College of Canine Studies, I receives a Distinction in BCCS PETbc Accredited Level 4 Advanced Canine Behaviour Diploma. I am also first-aid trained with ProPet and have my Canine First Aid Level 2 (VTQ). Rest assured, I am fully insured (Professional Indemnity and Public Liability) with PetPlan Santuary and have an enhanced DBS certificate.
I am currently studying two more qualifications at The British College of Canine Studies. These are specialist courses: Puppy Care Certificate Course and The Dog Walkers & Sitters Association (DWSA) Certificate.
I have also had dogs all my life and currently care for my two furry friends, Billy (10 years old) & Max (7 years old).
The cost of our services varies depending on the type of training and the duration of the sessions. You can find my services and pricing on the services page.
The first thing to do whenever you see any changes that concern you in your dog’s behaviour is to have your dog examined by a vet. It is possible that a medical condition is affecting the way a dog behaves. If the change in behaviour is sudden, it can actually be a sign that your dog is unwell or in pain without you realising. A clean bill of health from a vet is essential to rule out and treat
any illness or injury, as sometimes treatment from your vet will resolve the behaviour in itself.
Yes. I have cameras that I can install in your house to monitor your dog when they are alone. This is a great tool to see how they react when alone and monitor their behaviour. Remote access can be given to the owner or I can monitor, record and report back.
I offer a walking service for all dogs and puppies (once vaccinated). I walk your dog in your absence, working on basic reactivity issues or training difficulties, such as confidence, aggression or recall. This is especially good for dogs that are anxious about being away from their owners. Great for socialisation with a qualified behaviourist. Can include "Buddy Walks" with the lovely Billy and Max.
I will walk your dog in all weathers and only ever cancel in extreme circumstances, such as high temperatures or snow too deep to drive in.
